The live concert album shows. The audience rejected him and the point he was trying (badly) to make. Same as Dylan being booed for going electric. Audiences don't own artists, but artists that try to expand their own horizons often fall foul of the very people they appeal to.
However, those that don't try to make their journey can also fail and fall into the abyss. Pity the poor artist.
