The sub-title to a recent CD called Skiffle Revival says it all really: "Songs about trains, women, alcohol and death" !! A good enough definition for the blues,too,really!
[Chas McDevitt claims on the sleeve "The Dan Burley Skiffle Group of the late 1930s and 1940s gave their name to the genre" but quotes above give an earlier usage.]
