Gee, you WinTel guys have complex considerations! My hubs -- both firewire and USB -- handle multiple devices simultaneously without a problem,; if they aren't handling them in true simultaneity, its as close as dammit and I can't see the difference. I am running a dual processor G-4 which has probably fewer clock cycles than your machine (but has two cpu's.)
