In BC the rangers job description weighs heavily on the enforcement and the park maintenance side and the pay is piss poor for their skills and what they are expected to cover. Also most positions now are temporary auxillary, so you only get employment for about 14 to 18 weeks and then you get dumped. Great if you have some other financial backup. Naturalist positions now rely heavily on volunteerism.

My conundrum was that I married a city lad, and although he let me drag him off into the bushes to live, given his druthers, he's not particularly keen on roughing it.
