Thread Name: Shameless Self-Promotion - does it work?
Subject: RE: Shameless Self-Promotion - does it work?
Recently I've been maintaining a single thread on Mudcat for Julie Ellison (SUBJECT: Julie Ellison News & Listings), and switched to a new replacement thread (SUBJECT: Julie Ellison News & Listings (2))when the first one got lengthy and out of date. Since the older thread just disappears from the main index page when it is unused this has the effect of deleting the old postings.
I'm interested in "PermaThreads" since they appear to offer the potential for editing and deleting old postings. This is exactly what I do on my promotional threads on message boards which support this kind of functionality, where my philosophy is to maintain a single thread of up to date information which can be used by those who are interested and easily ignored by those who are not.
Problem is - I see no links to permathreads from the forum index page or the mudcat home page. Am I missing something here? They seem an ideal solution which would keep the promoters (self or otherwise) and interested/disinterested parties all equally happy - but only if the permathreads are as easy to find and navigate as the main discussion threads.
Hi, John - Your Julie Ellison PermaThread is here (click). Let me know if you need help figuring out the "edit" and "delete" buttons. You may want to post a few test messages to the thread, and fool around with them. The thread will be included in the PermaThread Index (as long as it is in current use), and it will be visible on the Forum Menu any time you have a message on the thread that is less than 24 hours old. Hope it works for you. -Joe Offer-
