The song that I know (of) called The Soldier and the Sailor or which might be called The Soldier's Prayer has nothing to do with homosexuality that I can fathom.
The one I'm talking about is on Mike Seeger's Southern Banjo Styles, and at least as sung by him, is a highly moralistic little song.
