Technicians in the laboratories would be expecting to be handling non infectious or dead viri. It was remarkable that Canadian scientists went so far as to tediously identify the virus given them when there were no protocols to do so.

The Diane Reems show on NPR today went into detail regarding this situation with 2 guests. One doctor on the show wrote a book 'Beasts of the World' which dealt with animal transmission of "new" emerging infectious diseases especially from pets.

Cats were riskier than dogs due to toxoplasmosis and rabbits turned out to be the safest pets of all. Anomal born diseases are not a one way street for it seems people have given diseases such as polio etc. to their pets.

Near the end of the show a most interesting prediction was made regarding the possible discovery of certain cancers, diseases and even shizophrenia to infectious agents in the near future.
