I was raised a Quaker. However, I have also been a combat photographer in Ireland, in Belfast in the 70s, so, I am not a knee jerk non-violent reactionary. I have come to believe that there are cercumstances where small nations and marginalized people have a right to resist the violence of nations like the US, Britain and Russia and Germany, with whatever tools are open to them in the face of unthinking, immoral agression. On the other hand, dont forget that we changed sides right after WW2, building up IG Farbin the nazi state corporation as a tool to destroy Russia, finally winning the cold war by returning eastern Europe to facsizm and Russia to rule by the mafia. I dont know that that young man standing in Times Square saying, I will not be a part of the maddness, was not doing as much to save the world. I do not say this to demeen the actions of a generation that fought the greatest war of liberation in history. I never miss a chance to thank and shake the hand of any WW2 vet, if he or she fought in the Internaitonal Brigades of Spain, or the armies allied against nazism. What they did was nothing short of save civilization, however, much of what they did, was sold short by corrupt leadership afterwards. If you dont believe it, go to the Czech Republic and watch the walling in of Gypsies in new ghettos - and weep if you have an ounce of humanity, for the Jews of Warsaw and now the Gypsies of the Czech Republic.
