As for a certain pub in Oxford - it wouldn't be the Bird & Bastard (Eagle & Child) now, would it? That was Tolkien's favourite pub; there's a plaque over his favourite seat (mine too, because I was sitting there the first night La Inglesa and I started going out, 32 years, 1 months and 24 days ago). Pehaps I should go there and stick a plaque of my own up...
