Alan, your Basic Southern Cornbread is pretty much the same as my recipe. And it's right...buttermilk is absolutely necessary. It can be made with cracklins as well. (Though I don't really like cracklin' cornbread, it's a big favorite of many members of my family.) I always use Yelton's cornmeal. It really does taste better, I swear.
