I have finally discovered the title "London Homesick Blues" and have just learned the song. Almost 40 years ago I heard the line "Now the bull cook's name was Blind River Joe". Same story, just found the songtitle, "The Black Fly Song". I'm currently trying to absorb that one into my diminishing brain box. Which song did you put on the long finger?
