Obviously, Rap, we come from parallel cultures. I too have recited that poem since fourth grade, every Spring. But on the East coast, where I am from, we used the word "sex" in the last line, rather than "screwing". That's because we understood trochees and dactyls -- we used to use them to get outdoor sex, so we had to know our stuff. Using a two-syllable word like "screwing" just messes up the flow and the scansion. But maybe the damsels where you came from were a little harder of hearing, or more interested in the concept than the execution, so to speak...
