Kate plays her songs in double drop d - DADGBD and capo's to alter the key. She has a song book available from Pure Records in which she explains her tuning but it was released before the Underneath the Stars album so those two songs are not there. You can get quite close if you use the tuning and try the 3 chord approach with a combination of playing a C shape, same shape moved it up two frets and an open chord with the two bass strings fretted at 5. I hope that makes sense. Then you need to find the right capo position. It certainly works for what she plays solo but on the records she usually has the talented Mr Ian Carr supplying the guitar magic which is a bit more complex.
