Why do foopball supporters shout loudly at the players on big screen telly in pubs?

Our session tonight was ruined by a lot of prats in the other room yelling at the tops of their voices ' COME ON WHATSISNAME!' & other stuff.

Do they think if they shout loudly enough, the men on screen can hear them?
