Dear Joe,

Learned it this way. Believe lyrics differ depending on gender of singer. Does anyone know if this was recorded by Patsy Cline? Looked at a couple of her sites, but couldn't find it. Know Anita Bryant did it. Prefer Cline.

PAPER ROSES

I realize the way your eyes deceived me,
With tender looks that I mistook for love;
So take away the flowers that you gave me,
And send the kind that you remind me of:

(Chorus) Paper roses, paper roses,
Oh how real those roses seem to be;
But they're only imitation,
Like your imitation love for me.

I thought that you would be a perfect lover:
You seemed so full of sweetness at the start;
But like a big red rose that's made of paper,
There isn't any sweetness in your heart.

(Chorus) Paper roses, paper roses,
Oh how real those roses seem to be;
But they're only imitation,
Like your imitation love for me.
Like your imitation love for me.

P.S. Maybe this didn't START as folk, but if it doesn't count by now, we'll have to leave out a lot of other recorded, and signed material, as well. It has certainly entered what DicK G. calls "the vernacular!"
