Thread Name: Old Songs Festival 2005 review; HOT!
Subject: RE: Review: Old Songs: 2005 HOT!
Frank and I made it to Old Songs and had a great time. We met Don Meixner at his booth (he and Frank got into an extended discussion of banjo parts, of course). Met Allan C and Carmen with Karen K at the picnic table near the Folk Legacy both (we were the ones eating the potato pancake and fried dough with strawberries). Met all the woodchucks at Kendall's camper. Met Jeri at the Bob Franke songwriting workshop (she was working on a tribute to Rick Fielding).

Chatted with Kendall and Jacqui when they arrived at our camper to visit at 9:30 am on Sunday morning! Frank sat there with great aplomb despite his bed hair, but I made them stand outside in the heat until I got out of the shower and threw on some clothes! Jacqui is a nice lady and the perfect foil for our dear Kendall.

Did NOT see Vicky & Tim. Did see NOMADman, Sandy & Caroline, BBC (glad that ticket exchange worked out with Robin) Dick & Susan and a few people at Kendall's camper who were mudcatters but whose names I don't recall. Asked one guy if he was Mainedog, but he denied it, saying he was from Vermont!

The music was wonderful, especially Ginny Hawker & Tracy Schwarz, Nightingale, the Lonesome Sisters, the shape note, John Whelan, those crazy Arrogant Worms (although once was enough), and the jams. I attended my first songwriter workshop (with Bob Franke) and went back the next day to Part 2 with a brand new song! However, I waited too long to raise my hand to do it in front of the group, and time ran out.

In fact, time ran out fast despite the heat and the dust and the mosquitos. It was a nice festival and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
