Okay, okay. The Great Race is coming to town today for lunch. We're going to have good barbecue, Shoshone-Bannock dancers, fiddlers competing, cowboy shootouts (using blanks, the wimps!), and about a hundred vintage cars which are racing from DC to Tacoma (they started June 25). If the lunch is good enough the racers will vote Pocatello as "Best Lunch" and the Library will win $5,000.

So I gotta get to work, because we can't afford to blow lunch.

That didn't come out right.

Neither did that.

Anyway, if we happen to win I'm going to use the cash to buy a book trailer, like this one in the picture from 1939, only updated. We can tow it with the Library's 1996 Subaru wagon to nursing homes, parks, schools, and so forth. And I can't find that any library in the US is using a book trailer these days.

(Why not a bookmobile? you ask. Well, a bookmobile would require a) at least 2 people holding commercial drivers' licenses; b) enough income to pay for a gas mileage of about 7 mpg, and c) an initial cost of about $125,000, which we don't have. Not to mention parking, an office, communications, a seperate book collection, etc. etc. That's why.)

So...if you're in Pocatello, Idaho around noon today and you like vintage cars and would like to pop in and say howdy...heck, I'll buy ya lunch. Even a beer.
