It is only one point of view, though, M.Ted, however valid. The academic institutions are there to collect and share knowledge. I am just glad that folk music is being seriously studied, collected, evaluated and recorded. Of course, this does not make the students - or their lecturers right. I do think it is one way to preserve and nurture it though. I think that folk music is most in danger from neglect and indifference. Even if we disagree with every conclusion which the academic institutions reach, we can still be happy that the subject is being kept alive.
