I did find the Mudcat thread with the song posted on it here but I noticed "Mannum" was spelt wrongly, and I've heard Wongawilli do it a number of times, so I went looking for their version, guessing that theirs might be the more correct one. I'm not sure, of course, but I think it is. There are a few differences between that one and the one on Mudcat - the years are different, and the biggest difference I noticed was the second line of the second verse. On the Mudcat version it is

With saddles and waggons and paint

whereas on the Wongawilli version it is

Making wagons and stirrups and hames,

- more likely to be correct IMO, since it rhymes with the fourth line

The women toil here making fuel for the flames.


Anyway, it's a good song, and now I realise I should have changed the subject line so the clones can find it and maybe put it in the DT. I guess I should ask them.
