When there was a live jam session in a favorite cafe in downtown Austin, Texas(back in the 1980s), we sometimes did a group of songs we called "the Death Spiral". They were songs from various traditions about death, dying, loss, etc. One of our faves, which we always ended with--LOUD--was one we'd heard on a Clancy Bros/Tommy Makem record. First verse:

Look at the coffin
Bloody brass handles
Isn't it grand, boys,
To be bloody-well DEAD?
(Cho.)Let's not have a sniffle--
Let's have a bloody good cry--
And always remember: the longer yuh live,
The sooner yuh'll bloody well die.

I think it's called "Isn't It Grand, Boys". Other verses were about the widow, preacher, flowers, candles. You should be able to find it somewhere. It was the recovery-from-depression-because-of-the-sad-nature-of-some-of-the-previous-songs song, and always got everyone really belting it out. Have a good day.         Tw
