My brother taught me this song in the 70's. I tought it to my best friend and we had competitions to see who could sing it faster. Now I'm impressing my 3 year old with my fast singing skills.

The version I remembered (at least before I read all the variations today) had the last verse:

BTW, I found this thread because I mentioned to that same best friend (still friends after 35 years) that I was teaching the song to my daughter, she asked me for the lyrics, and I googled because I was too lazy to type them in. I didn't really expect to find the lyrics, much less a whole discussion.
