Although I haven't read that particular book, I know what you mean, gnomad. Years ago when I was dating a German (formerly American POW) I read everything I could find on WWII. I'd take huge stacks of books home from the library. At the same time I took home stacks of sci fi books. When WWII got too stomach turning, I turned to science fiction. I spent four years doing that.
