I've watched the PBS mystery series "Wire in the Blood" but the original books are much better. Right now I'm reading "The Wire in the Blood" - the author is Val McDermid. She grew up in a Scottish mining community and then went to Oxford. She was a journalist for sixteen years and now writes full time, living in South Manchester.
