North Texas beat both Idaho and Florida with a high of 100 today. Same predicted for tomorrow. And Tuesday. Sheesh. It's autumn in a few days, and we're still getting this nonsense weather-wise.

I was out in it today visiting the Humane Society. Adopted a sweet little pooch to keep my current sweet pooch company. They suggested I bring my dog down, and several people there wanted to adopt her! (Pitbulls--you either love them or hate them, I guess, but those who asked and got a chance to pet her took home plenty of dog slobber on their hands and feet). She met my intended pup and they were immediately nuzzling and licking and rolling over each other, both flopping down in submissive positions. I asked about three dogs, and the guy who walks the dogs said this one might be aggressive, but when he thought about it, "maybe she was just so happy to see the other dog she overwhelmed her." I think that was the case, and for an active dog, I think she has met her match in my pooch. The one at the shelter will be spayed tomorrow and come home on Wednesday. We'll think of a new name, the one she has isn't great. Our first dog is called Cinnamon Sugar. My kids are quick--Caroline suggested we name the new one "Burnt Toast."
