I saw in the paper this morning (American side of the pond) that the MAcArthur Foundation announced its annual genius awards, with $500,000 going to 25 people - presumably $20,000 each.

What caught my eye, buried in about the fifth paragraph, was a reference to a history professor "who focuses on sound". Anybody have any idea what this fellow does (or did)?   I'm intrigued.
