Some of the things I was thinking about when I started this thread to ask that question were, for instance, one of the cases currently before the Supreme Court, and the stance that Justice Roberts appears to be taking on it. This is the case in which some people are trying to get the Supreme Court to overturn an Oregon law allowing assisted suicide. Roberts, Bush's fair-haired boy, seems to not think very highly of states' rights.

That, plus the whole "Department of Homeland Security" thing, Bush wanting to overturn Posse Comitatus, and to use the US military to assist with quarantines of civilians in the event of a flu pandemic. Stuff like that. It really seems to me that a lot of today's republicans want to increase the powers of the federal government far more than even the Democrats.
