We're treading on some dangerous ground here! If we criticise Eric, then we're going to have to apply that to B.B.King etc as well. And why stop there! To many people, there are only two traditional Irish tunes - a fast one, and a slow one! The blues is - superfically - a " simple" music. But, of course, within that very basic framework, there is a world of fascinating variations. Robert Johnson, for example, had, maybe, three tunes and everything he played were variations on them. BUT, what marverlous variations! As I said previously, I thought Eric's playing at the reunion was better than 1968. He used far less " gimmicky" repetive patterns, and "the sound" was marvelous.
