I've only hung one instrument on the wall ... and that was an old madonlin that was virtually unplayable. I keep all my guitars (4 in total) in the case to protect them from the environment. Since I'm not a collector or don't suffer from GAS they are all used quite regularly. As for the keeping and improving the 'ambient sound' the only and best solution is to play them.
