And in Maryland and DC, too. You made it into chat the other night. Lurk until you feel like talking. People will introduce themselves and tell you that they're a guy or lady from whatever area of the world, (and we have them from Australia to Samoa to Iceland) so we can understand how best to talk with you and make you at home. That's all you are expected to give, at your option.
They patiently had to explain a lot of elementary Brit to me so I could understand English more as spoken by a native while I had to do some of the same from our side of The Pond. People will "blue" you and give you personal messages, answer questions, and glossary help, correst misconceptions, bring you up to date on the conversation that you may have walked into the middle of, warn you about getting doored and the like, all in a most friendly and welcoming manner. And if you walk into a conversation of old friends that have been talking like they've known each other for years, we'd gladly stop saying a lot of the same old things to ourselves to hear some new ones from you. They did it for and with me for the year I've been in here and have proved helpful in a lot of things beyond mere chat and friendship. We even talk a lot of music, when prompted.
