I always enjoyed Jimmy Durante on early live TV musical shows. I remember him playing the Chez Paree nightclub in Chicago---the place where David Roth, the fine singer/songwriter's father was the matre dee (however that's spelled?). The bit in cartoons where the ending spotlight is swept up at the end of a show with a broom was from, as I recall it, from Jimmy Durante.

And even now I hear sound-alike actors imitating Jimmy on commercials here and now in this new century.----J.D. was one of a kind who just exuded the complete definitive feelings of what it meant to be a "nice guy"!
