Fritz was a friend of mine from way back - he grew up down the street from me. He introduced me to the Spoonful before they were big -"Spoonful? Who are they?!?" I suspect I crossed paths with many of you at the Club 47, feet on stage in front of the washtub. The last time I saw him was in Scituate, Mass, when he performed with John Sebastian. While we were chatting, he had a visit from a worshipful fan, who soulfully told the story of Fritz's influence on him.. It was J. Geils. What a great picture - the rock icon bowing to the folk icon.
