About three weeks ago I achieved a lifelong ambition and bought a kilt - Just the kilt! Not the full regalia.

Most people seemed nonplussed and amused at a bloke with an obviously sassenach accent wearing the plaid.

One bloke in a pub had the decency to ask (on behalf of his mates) "Why the kilt?" - He (and his pals) were happy with "Because it's comfortable"

I wore it at a car-boot sale this morning and most people who said anything at all were impressed that I wasn't freezing to death - I suppose because it's wool! They were desperately cold in their denims

I wore it to a gig this afternoon in Oxfordshire and got a fairly positive response from a bunch of pub regulars.

The only negativity was at a 'choke 'n' puke' (McDonald's) near Didcot when a neanderthal in a car yelled across the car park "Hey mate! (I wasn't his mate) Why you wearing a skirt"

I yelled back that I couldn't hear what he was saying with his engine running so he actually turned it off and asked again - I said I couldn't hear him with his engine running and he told me that he'd turned it off..... so I told him I couldn't hear what he was saying with his engine running and he said......

I actually got him to yell 5 times that he HAD turned his engine off and eventually he walked over to me to tell me right up close.

I then said - "What was it you were shouting" and he'd forgotten! Even his boyfriend (I suppose it was his boyfriend) couldn't remember either - Isn't it worrying that these primates can reproduce

I think I shall enjoy wearing my kilt even more now
