My problem was also pneumonia. I had chloromycetin in the IV drip -- tablets didn't work. Chloromycetin isn't used for that anymore.

When I started High School the gym wasn't ready, so we kinda wandered around outside for gym class. Same thing the second semester. Labor Day weekend of my sophomore year I had pneumonia, so I didn't take gym that year either. Junior year I had a foot operation and missed gym there, too. First semester of my senior year I just skipped it; in the second semester the gym teacher (who also taught civics and history) asked me, "Aren't you supposed to be in gym class?" and after I allowed that yes, I was, he said, "Well, you haven't made it in three and half years, so don't start now."

A week after I graduated I started Basic Training -- the old teacher laughed when I came home on leave.
