Thread Name: Lyr Req: In the Eye Abides the Heart (S Foster)
Subject: Chord add: in den Augen liegt das Herz
Someone asked for the chords for this interesting melody. I've downloaded it from this website
http://ingeb.org/Lieder/indenaug.html
The MIDI on that site has an introduction (to get dancers onto the floor) and, I believe, a coda. I don't have time to match the words to the tune, but I believe that's what's going on. The coda ends with a bunch of G chords after the 16th notes. Then the tune repeats.
I could never play it as fast and with as many chord changes as they have on the site. Also, there are some pile-ups which may simply be mistakes. So I've been playing the song at my piano, and I have come up with simpler chords.
Keep in mind that the original in the key of G is too high to sing and that citrusy dissonances are common in old waltz tunes.
Intro
two pick up notes - no chord G G D (that's the first measure. Each letter = one beat) GGG GCD GGG GGD GGG DDD GGG Em Em Em Em Am Em DDG DDD (end of intro) -melody has two beats of rest
AmBB Am for two measures GDD Am Am Am DDD DDA D for two measures GGG DDD Em GG CCC AGC or Em DDD GGG coda: DDD Em GG GGD GGG GG
