Art, the man who played Denham was Jack Black. He is the actor that I referenced above as the weakest link in the film. I didn't think he was terrible, just a poor casting choice. And in the main, this is one of the best movies ever, I agree with every comment to that effect above. I just think he was wrong for the part. The reasons you gave put a little finer nib on it for me.
