I have the usual wintering seed eaters including large numbers of goldfinches and red polls cleaning out the feeders these days. Saw a pileated woodpecker a few days ago, the wild turkeys are keeping a low profile these days with Christmas just around the corner.

The sight of these colourful lifeforms is a connecting and reassuring presence in the relatively lifeless and monochromatic winter landscape.
They bring me joy.
