"He laughs as there I sprawling lie" is the sentence in the 1857 sheet music.
Lie is right in present tense which was the way the composer wrote it.

The next verse has the expression 'go it,' which meant do it, exuberantly. I heard the expression many years ago in Georgia, and my wife tells a story using it, but I think it has now dropped out of usage. Anyone heard it recently?
