I have put a request through, (via a friend of mine who knows of the song, can sing the first line, did down the phone at me, but can't remember much more), to another contact who lived in RSA for years, and who she says is bound(!) to know it. I only lived there for a couple of years in the 80s and never came across it, but is it referring to the annual emptying of the Transvaal and Free State into Durban every December? I got a wonderful book while I was out there called "Kyk Daar!", which is all about Durban life, covers the annual visit of the "Kyk Daars", and has a cartoon with the grandad standing holding his little grandson's hand on the beach. They are looking at the sea, and the little boy says:"Jus like Oupa, on whose big farm is this big dam?"

I hope before long I may be able to post something. It relies on contact #1 actually remembering to get in touch with contact #2 in the first place! I'll try and nag'em!
