I usually regail dancers (for the Nottingham Swing) with the tale of Snottingham (ham as in Anglo-Saxon for homestead eg hamlet)(ing as in posessive of )(the family of Snot) until someone pointed-out that there is much debate about the family name - it could have been Snod - my reaction is that Snod is just not as funny.
