I was born in 1943. As I have said here before, my mother was a musician/transcriber of a good portion of Lomax's materials and other LoC sound materials. I heard this song in the late '40s/early '50s. If Johnny Cash had heard and liked this piece, he may have used it as a base for some words of his own, but Leadbelly was doing it a good bit before he died.
