It is if you encrypt it....if you seriously NEED totally private communications, it is absolutely possible. There are 'chained proxies' and encryption schemes and "mountable partitions" for your hard drive for storing stuff. I would imagine that much terrorist stuff is done this way now. It's not all 'simple'...but neither is doing your taxes.
