Subject: RE: A 70's FOLK FEST? wot u think?
don't forget English Tapestry, Vulcan's Hammer.
My favourites from then would include Martin Wyndham-Read, Dave Burland the Waterstones, Nic Jones, Tony Rose,High Level Ranters....but hey many of these are still heading the festivals (which is great) and we should be encouraging young ones to keep the music and traditions going- Devils Interval,Ben Harker and Emily Wey, The Witches of Elswick and the many others who are involved in the tradition.A balanced festival should reflect this.
In the north, in the cities, there is a healthy interest from the student population and they are coming to our local folk clubs in droves to SING and PLAY.
I would love a festival which was a trip down memory lane but folk music is all about about being involed and if we want the music to go on then no festival should exclude artists on the grounds of their youth.
