The tune of " My Country 'tis of thee" is not much better. A lot worse, being, of course the same tune as "God Save the Queen".

Nothing "dirge-like" about the Star-Spangled Banner, if it's sung right. Which it very rarely is I understand. "Anacreon" was a drinking song. and that's what that tune needs.
