Thread Name: Obit: Katie Lee, "Ten Thousand Goddam Cattle"
Subject: RE: Folklore: Where is Katie Lee (10,000 GD Cattle
I thought I'd seen her mentioned in the paper recently -- she was at this event this past weekend:

Honor the Canyon Women in Your Life! - The Friends of Saguaro National Park is very pleased to announce their spring 2006 event, "Canyon Women," featuring three amazing Arizona women: Katie Lee, Betty Leavengood, and Lauray Yule. Ticket sales go towards preservation and outreach efforts for Saguaro National Park.

She had a memoir out in 2004: Sandstone Seduction : Rivers and Lovers, Canyons and Friends, by Kate Lee.
"Lee's earthy Arizona memoir, peppered with b&w photos of men, friends, rocks, and rivers, limns her love affair with the Southwest, where she grew up in the 1940s. Lee has been a singer, actress, musicologist, and activist on behalf of wilderness, but it's her skill as a storyteller that's the point here. Essays, recollections, journal entries, and snippets of letters ramble through the years like water through Lee's beloved Glen Canyon." Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Plenty of Google material, try this: http://myhero.com/myhero/hero.asp?hero=k_lee, or Wikipedia. :-)
