WE ENGLISH are British through and through as are the Irish

That last part is not exactly true. Not even for those who favour maintaining the British connection - after all it's "the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", and the term "Brit" when used in Northern Ireland isn't normally understood to include Unionists or Loyalists. Not even when they are the ones using it.
