Don't quit working on your guitar playing, but if you are a strong singer don't let what you perceive as rudimentary guitar skills stop you from performing in public. Just keep your guitar arrangements within the parameters of what you're sure you can handle. A good singer can get away with basic guitar playing - sometimes less is more.
