I remember reading a magazine short story many years ago about a guy living in a jungle whose live-in native female companion religiously ironed all his clothes, even his underwear. After he kicked her out he began wearing unironed clothes and began to itch, then break out in pustules which eventually ruptured (very painfully) releasing large maggots. He didn't know that the purpose of ironing the clothes was to kill the fly eggs in his clothes, not just to make him look snazzy. Whether the story was based on anything factual, I have no idea.
