Sonnet 18/11/05                            MXXXII

Can I dream, without hope that she will lend
Some part of heaven to my night? I pray,
But am not answered: Must all of dreams end,
Without the chance she will hear what I say?
I cannot ask for my desire, to share
The stars, and sunrise. Should I with moon plead
To shine without her? Even the sun's glare
Does not light more than shadow of heart's need.
My vision fails: How can I think to see
With only darkness upon dream? I wait
For dawn to end despair. Heart cannot be
At rest alone, yet that now seems my fate.
Is there reason I should not cry, to know
I have no hope to concern for muse show?
