Muppitz is a young lady called Tina Taylor possessed of a truly impressive voice - husky, powerful and really very nice. as a debut gig - it was most impressive. She accompanied herself on the guitar, and on Step it Out Mary, she put her guitar aside and played the bodhran. She had two guitars - on in open tuning, and the other in standard. She moved between the two, and played both quite sensitively.

The repertoire tonight was mainly contemporary in nature. She featured songs by Eric Bogle, Alanis Morrissette, and two by Joni Mitchell. The exquisite chord voicings of the Mitchell pieces were tackled with great competence and a bit of dash. The other songs were written by herself and a chap from the Wirral whose name escapes me.

Tina is of an age when ones emotional life is bound to provide the subject matter of most songs - and there was one song about sincerity in love that was quite moving. There was another observational piece about working in a pub in Nottingham and the contrast btween St Patrick's day celebrations and St George's day. I think she finds the lyrical muse easier to locate than the street language needed for social comment - but all the same its great to see a young writer attempting to engage with the world she inhabits, rather than blethering on about the first world war and the press gang.

Apparently she is already booked for several festival and I am sure she will soon have lots of fans, and lots of musicians will be anxious to accompany that voice.

best wishes for the future Muppitz - I'd change that handle if I were you, you're bound to get confused with curry/farting song man from Bradford.
