Well, Danks, you make a good case in support of "Streets of London", but I have to admit that when I saw the title of this thread, that was the first song that came to my mind!

Yes, the lyrics are arguably meaningful. However, for me the melody's rather wet and the whole thing smacks of that mid-Atlantic soft pop-rock that flourished during and slightly after the sixties. And why do people keep singing the bloody thing? (Actually, I must admit that of late it seems, in some places at least, to have joined, thankfully, that list of songs that are considered beyond the pale.)
